Youth Volunteering

Are you the OUTDOOR type? Are you ready to head out and sharpen the skills you already have, or to learn new skills in horse training, outback riding, outdoor cooking, or tour management?  We take volunteering up a notch to make available summer term participation in Ranch Apprenticeship activities.  That’s sharing in Ranch chores, daily service delivery, horse care and behavioral management, and more!

Ranch Apprenticeship might be for you, if you are at least 16 years of age to adult, and willing to gain marketable skills in preparation for college, or lining up that all important reference for future career paths.

Here’s how it works:

Choose from the following skill training areas you would like to gain experience in.  This will build a workable schedule for you to follow, in two week increments.

Horsemanship Horse Training Horseback Riding
Hoof Trimming Tack Maintenance Saddlery
Fencing Methods Backcountry Camping Horse Packing
Guest Hosting Tour Planning Outdoor Cooking
Ranch management Advertising Safety Ethics

If you are between the ages of 16-18, with little or no horse experience, you will be required to participate in a one week session of Adventurer Teen Horse Camp, first, as an important orientation to Ranch work. Then you may continue in an Apprenticeship program. Participation in daily chores, including meal preparation, corral, yard, and barn maintenance is expected. You will receive board and accommodation at no charge, with plenty of hands on experience, depending on the length of your stay.

A Certificate of Accomplishment will be issued, along with a letter of reference from the Trailhead Ranch owner, on successful term completion. Adults are welcome to follow your interests and participate as well. To register with your personal interests and any inquiries you may have, feel free to contact the Ranch!
